Military suicide has continues to increase due to feelings of post-deployment isolation and time away from military comrades (Martin, Houtsma, Green, & Anestis, 2016) I once had a student that had a very unique perspective on suicide in the military that he allowed me to share with future classes. According to this student, when a soldier is the last one left alive at a military compound, he is to raise a flag and kill himself. Then he posed the question, “Could the reason military personnel have a higher rate of suicide than the general population be due to feelings of beings alone and that suicide is the coping mechanism they were taught?” Martin, R.
